Organisers describe stand locations by how many sides are open to the aisle. This affects how visitors see you, how you plan the layout and how you brief your stand builder.
Linear stand: one open side
A linear stand sits between neighbours and is open only to the front. It is usually the most economical position, but has the least visibility, so strong signage and a clear front matter.
Corner stand: two open sides
A corner stand is open to two aisles. Visitors can approach from two directions, which improves visibility and traffic. It gives more options for entrances and display.
Peninsula stand: three open sides
A peninsula stand is open on three sides and usually sits at the end of a row of stands. It offers strong visibility and room for a feature wall or meeting space at the back.
Island stand: four open sides
An island stand is open on all four sides and stands alone in the hall. It gives the most freedom and impact, and also needs the most planning for structure, branding on every side and visitor flow.
How to choose
- Decide your goals first: visibility, meetings or product demonstration
- Match the stand type to your budget, because more open sides usually means more to design and build
- Ask the organiser for the floor plan and for any height limits
- Brief your stand builder with the stand number and open sides

Quick answers
Which stand type gets the most visitors?
Stands with more open sides are generally easier to see and approach, but position in the hall and the layout of the show also matter.
Does an island stand cost more?
It usually needs more structure and finishing than a linear stand of the same size, but each project differs. A tailored proposal is the way to compare.
Can I choose my stand type?
Often you can request a position when booking space, subject to availability. Ask your organiser.
